Wedding Beauty: Why do bridal services often come with a higher price tag?

You’re engaged and have started planning the wedding of dreams. Hooray! Now that you’ve been getting quotes from potential vendors, you’ve noticed that any time you add “wedding” to an inquiry, the cost seems to be higher. This is an experience that every couple has when planning a wedding, and often it can feel as though there is no reasonable explanation for this cost increase. If you are feeling this way, your frustration is understandable. When comparing vendor costs, most people don’t consider the behind-the-scenes work that happens in preparation for the wedding day.
When it comes to beauty services, there are many reasons that the cost quoted to you is higher than special event makeup & hair services.
Consider this scenario. You are a client getting ready to go out for your birthday and decide to have your makeup and hair done. You book an appointment in advance, arrive at the time of your booking, have your services completed and are on your way. For this type of appointment, there is a brief consultation done with your artist before they begin to work, and they check in with you throughout to ensure that you’re happy with the result. This is the beginning and end of your experience with your artist.
When a bride or wedding party is booked, there are many more steps involved in the process, which ultimately leads to a higher cost in services. There is a significant amount of time and energy invested in advance and on the day of the wedding by your artist(s). We thought it may be helpful to outline some of these reasons in order to help facilitate an understanding around the cost of makeup and hair services for a wedding.
TIME INVESTED
The main umbrella reason that wedding services cost more is that your bridal team spends much more time and energy coordinating behind the scenes and on the day of the wedding. Not only is there an abundance of work done behind the scenes starting the minute a bridal inquiry is received, but your artist also does quite a bit of management on the day of your wedding to ensure that your services are executed perfectly. As a whole, there is exponentially more work done for wedding services than any special event beauty service. It isn't as simple as showing up for your appointment, then leaving within 45-60 mins as is the case for regular makeup appointments.

ADMINISTRATIVE WORK
There is nothing we love more than getting you glammed up for your big day! We live for the moment that you see yourself in your wedding dress and all the pieces fall perfectly into place. None of those pieces would fall into place without a significant amount of administrative work before the wedding day. We draft and develop your contract and timeline to ensure that every tiny detail is taken care of and accounted for. We send out reminders to you for how to prepare your skin/hair for the wedding weeks beforehand. We spend a significant amount of time communicating with you by email, answering questions, confirming details, discussing your hopes and dreams for the day and making necessary amendments to your contract or timeline.
CONSULTATION
One of the differentiating factors between wedding services and special event services is the in-depth consultation that is done during the bridal trial. Prior to your trial, we ask you to send along your inspiration photos and ideas to your artist, who will then ensure that they have everything needed for the trial prepared in advance. During your bridal trial, also called a preview, your artist will consult with you closely about your goals and vision for the wedding day. Your artist will discuss your skincare and haircare routine, and will make recommendations for how best to prepare your skin and hair leading up to the wedding. Once the trial has been completed, your artist will make notes about what was done, what changes to make, and what you loved about the look so they can recreate it perfectly on the big day!
APPLICATION
When performing a makeup application or hairstyle for your big day, your artist considers several different factors. We need your look to last all day long, be flawless in photos and in person, and to be sweat, humidity and tear resistant. Your artist will use professional products that are specific to bridal applications to ensure the quality and longevity of the makeup and hair. The cost of these caliber of products are built into the pricing for wedding services.
