When Should You Get a Spray Tan Before Your Wedding?

The Ultimate Toronto Bride’s Spray Tan Timeline

The sweet spot? 2–3 days before your wedding.

Your spray tan will likely be one of the last beauty appointments on your wedding-week beauty calendar, but getting the timing right matters.

Facials, waxing, nails, exfoliating, shaving - they all need to happen in the right order so that by the time you step into your dress, your tan has fully developed, settled and just looks like your skin but better.

We know your wedding-week beauty appointments start to feel like a math equation no one warned you would be on the test.

What comes first? What absolutely cannot come after your tan? And when exactly are you supposed to fit everything in?

Don't worry. We did the math for you.

At Schulz Beauty, we’ve perfected the wedding tanning timeline so you can walk down the aisle with total confidence.

3–4 WEEKS BEFORE: TAKE YOUR GLOW FOR A TEST DRIVE

Your wedding week is not the time for experimenting.

If you’ve never had a Schulz spray tan - or especially if you’ve never had a spray tan - this is the time to take your wedding glow for a test drive.

Besides, you have approximately 47 bridal events coming up. Consider this your excuse to glow for one of them.

Engagement photos, bridal shower, bachelorette, dress fitting or hair and makeup trial; pick your occasion, book your trial and put that glow to work.

Your trial is where we figure out your ideal depth, undertone and how your colour actually develops on your skin. Maybe you normally love a deeper tan but decide you want something softer against your wedding dress. Or maybe you thought you wanted subtle and realize you want a little more glow.

That’s exactly why we trial it.

Already wondering if a trial is really necessary? We have thoughts.

WEDDING WEEK: IT’S ALL ABOUT THE ORDER

Your spray tan likes to be the last girl to arrive.

Wedding-week beauty appointments can start to feel like a very glamorous game of Tetris. Facials, waxing, massages, nails - they all have their place, and your spray tan should be one of the final pieces.

Anything involving exfoliating, oils, water or lots of rubbing is best scheduled before your tan so nothing interferes with your colour afterward.

Think of your spray tan as the finishing touch. Once she arrives, we want that glow left very much alone.

Your pre-spray tan beauty checklist:

  • Waxing and other hair removal: done. Get these done at least 48 hours before your spray tan. Waxing too close to your appointment can lead to the solution settling into open pores (not cute).

  • Facial or body treatments: done.

  • Massage: done.

  • Mani/pedi: done. Get this done 24 hours before - the oils from a pedicure can act as a barrier to your tan.

  • Any serious exfoliating: definitely done.

Basically, get all the high-maintenance stuff out of the way now so your spray tan can arrive fashionably late and steal the show.

PRO TIP: The "Dove" Ban: If you're a Dove soap user, ditch it now! It leaves a film on the skin that is the ultimate enemy of a natural looking sunless tan.

24–48 HOURS BEFORE YOUR SPRAY TAN: PREP NOW, GLOW LATER

A flawless tan starts before you ever step into the studio.

This is your window to exfoliate thoroughly, shave and give any dry areas a little extra love. Pay attention to elbows, knees, ankles and anywhere your skin tends to hold onto colour.

Skipping this step can mean colour grabbing onto dry patches or developing unevenly and patchy is definitely not on the wedding-week mood board.

Hydration matters just as much. In the days leading up to your appointment, moisturize generously and drink plenty of water. Well-hydrated skin creates the best canvas for a smooth, even tan and helps your colour wear and fade more beautifully.

Basically: exfoliate, hydrate, moisturize. Give us good skin to work with and we’ll take it from there.

2–3 DAYS BEFORE THE WEDDING: IT’S TAN TIME

This is the sweet spot.

For most brides, we recommend getting your final spray tan 2–3 days before your wedding. This gives your colour plenty of time to fully develop, settle into your skin and get through those all-important rinses before anything white, silk or wildly expensive enters the chat.

Saturday wedding? Wednesday or Thursday is usually your ideal tan day.
Friday wedding? Tuesday or Wednesday.
Sunday wedding? Thursday or Friday.

By wedding morning, we want the cosmetic bronzer long gone and your actual tan looking natural, even and completely settled.

And remember: darker isn’t necessarily better. Your wedding-day colour should complement your natural skin tone, dress, makeup and overall look. Not make you feel like a different person. This is where everything we learned during your trial comes into play.

No guessing. No last-minute colour decisions. Just the perfect customized bridal glow for you.

AFTER YOUR TAN: PROTECT YOUR INVESTMENT

You’ve got a flawless bridal tan. Now the goal is to keep it that way.

While your tan is developing, water and sweat are the enemy. Keep your skin completely dry until your recommended rinse time - no hot girl walks, dishwashing without gloves, workouts or anything else likely to have you sweating. Even a rogue splash of water can interfere with the way your colour develops.

After your first rinse, the assignment is simple: hydrate and be gentle.

Moisturize daily and stick to gentle, tan-safe skincare and body products. Skip retinol, exfoliating acids, scrubs and anything designed to speed up skin-cell turnover until after the wedding. Not sure if your products are tan-safe? We’ll go over it with you in studio and if you don’t have what you need, we’ve got you.

And for the next couple of days, this is probably not the time for your sweatiest workout, a sauna session or a soak in the hot tub.. Excessive sweating can shorten the life of your tan, especially when you add tight workout clothes and friction into the mix.

Sweat + friction + a fresh tan = a glow that may start fading before its big debut.

A couple of low-maintenance days now means your colour stays smooth, even and exactly where we want it for the wedding.

WEDDING DAY: NOTHING LEFT TO DO BUT GLOW

The tanning math is officially over.

By wedding morning, your colour fully developed, rinsed and settled into that natural, even glow we planned for.

Keep your skincare simple, moisturize as usual and let your hair and makeup team take it from here.

The goal was never to make you look tan. It was to make your skin look radiant, flawless and incredible against your white dress; in person, in photos and from every angle your photographer manages to catch.

You did the prep. We perfected the colour. Time to get married. 🤍
